概述
Italian resident subsea drone that lives on the seabed for months, holding the record for an untethered autonomous subsea deployment.
Hydrone-R is Saipem's resident subsea drone, built to stay on the seabed for months instead of being launched from a support vessel for each job. It is rated to 3,000 m and works from subsea docking stations, where it recharges, uploads data, and receives new missions, covering a radius of about 10 km and further via additional docks. Onboard sensors and AI-based anomaly detection let it inspect pipelines and subsea equipment, survey the seabed, detect leaks, and do light intervention, including supporting work-class ROVs during drilling. Equinor uses it under a 10-year contract at the Njord field in the Norwegian Sea, at about 330 m depth. Its second deployment lasted 240 days, from May 2024 to January 2025, a record for continuous untethered autonomous operation by a subsea robot.
