Freedom is Oceaneering's resident-capable hybrid AUV/ROV for subsea inspection and light intervention. It combines AUV transit efficiency with ROV-like close-proximity coverage, allowing a single pass to collect high-resolution data along pipelines, flowlines, and umbilicals. Its COMPASS software analyses sonar and computer-vision data onboard for feature-relative navigation, cathodic-protection measurements, and hydrocarbon-leak detection. Freedom can autonomously find, align with, and latch into vessel-based or subsea docking stations, enabling data offload, charging, and tool exchange without recovering the vehicle to deck. The program achieved independently assessed Technology Readiness Level 6 for pipeline inspection in 2022.
