Two-person-portable French mine-hunting AUV launched from small boats in shallow water.
A9-M is Exail's man-portable mine-countermeasure AUV, small enough for two people to launch from a rigid inflatable and recover in minutes. The 2 m, 70 kg vehicle works from 3 to 300 m and can run for up to 20 hours at 3 knots with its dual-battery option. Side-scan sonar, a video camera, and a CTD let it search harbours, approaches, and very shallow water for mines, while a forward-looking sonar avoids obstacles and a high-grade inertial navigation system with a Doppler velocity log keeps its sonar images accurately positioned. Its low magnetic and acoustic signatures are designed to avoid triggering influence mines. French Navy mine-clearance divers and the Latvian Navy are among its users.
