Descripción general

Chinese full-ocean-depth AUV from Harbin Engineering University that dived to 10,896 m in the Mariana Trench.

Wukong is a full-ocean-depth autonomous underwater vehicle built by Harbin Engineering University, one of China's main naval engineering schools. In 2021 it worked its way down through a series of trial dives, first setting a Chinese record of 7,709 metres and then, in November, reaching 10,896 metres in the Mariana Trench, close to the deepest point of any ocean. Unlike a tethered robot, it made these dives entirely on its own, without a cable to the surface.

Notas

Developed under Harbin Engineering University's full-ocean-depth AUV programme with the Shenyang Institute of Automation, the CAS Institute of Oceanology and China's National Deep Sea Center. In February-March 2021 it reached 7,709 m, then a Chinese AUV record, after earlier dives to 5,016 m and 6,656 m. People's Daily reported that it reached 10,896 m in the Mariana Trench in November 2021, and Science and Technology Daily described it in 2026 as still China's deepest-diving AUV. Dimensions and weight have not been published. It is a different vehicle from the Haidou-1 hybrid ROV/AUV.
