Descripción general
Dutch electric 'robot shark' that swims through harbours and canals swallowing floating plastic and collecting water data.
WasteShark is a small autonomous surface vessel from Dutch company RanMarine Technology, modelled on a whale shark that feeds by swimming with its mouth open. The 1.9 m electric catamaran glides through harbours, marinas, and canals at walking pace, scooping floating plastic, debris, and algae into a basket that holds about 550 litres, and can remove up to around 500 kg of waste a day. Between loads it returns to shore to be emptied and recharged. It can follow pre-planned routes autonomously or be driven remotely over 4G, and its camera, lidar, depth sounder, and optional water-quality sensors log data on the water it cleans. Ports, marinas, and city waterways use it for routine clean-ups.
