Descripción general

MBARI's first ROV, delivered in 1988 and still studying Monterey Bay's deep waters.

Ventana was the first remotely operated vehicle of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, delivered in 1988 and built to a design shaped by Hewlett-Packard co-founder David Packard. Rated to 1,850 m, it has spent decades making day trips into Monterey Canyon from MBARI's coastal research ships, building one of the longest video records of life in the deep water column. Its long series of dives gives scientists a decades-long video record for tracking change in deep-water life.
