Descripción general
Saab's remotely operated robot for finding and disposing of underwater bombs, so divers no longer have to.
Sea Wasp is a remotely operated vehicle that Saab developed in the United States to take divers out of one of the most dangerous jobs in maritime security: dealing with underwater improvised explosive devices on ship hulls, piers, and in harbours. The compact 1.7 m, roughly 90 kg vehicle is built on Saab Seaeye ROV technology and works to 60 m in currents up to 2.5 knots. Its control system can hold depth and altitude, keep station, avoid obstacles, and follow waypoints, while an electric five-function manipulator handles disruptors and other tools to move or neutralise a device. A two-person crew operates it from the surface at a safe distance. Prototypes were evaluated by U.S. Navy EOD Group 2, the FBI's counter-IED unit, and a South Carolina maritime response unit.
