Overview

BAE's uncrewed version of the Royal Navy's standard Pacific 24 sea boat.

The autonomous Pacific 24 is an uncrewed version of the 7.8-metre rigid inflatable boat that serves as the Royal Navy's standard sea boat. BAE Systems developed it under the Navy's NavyX innovation programme so that a warship could send the boat ahead to investigate suspicious contacts without risking sailors. In trials the frigate HMS Argyll commanded it from her operations room up to 10 miles away, steering it and aiming its camera and remote weapon station. In 2023 it became the first uncrewed military vessel certified under Lloyd's Register's code for unmanned marine systems.

In 2019 at DSEI and in October 2021 off Plymouth, the frigate HMS Argyll controlled the boat from its operations room, at up to 10 miles away, cueing its camera and remote weapon station. In February 2023 it became the first uncrewed military vessel certified under Lloyd's Register's Unmanned Marine Systems code. Development was funded by the Royal Navy's NavyX programme.
