Overview

Israeli high-speed patrol and combat USV that can switch between uncrewed and crewed operation.

Katana is a fast uncrewed surface vessel from Israel Aerospace Industries, unveiled in 2014 for harbour security, coastal patrol and the protection of offshore energy platforms. The 11.9 m boat runs on two 560 hp diesels, reaches 60 knots, cruises at 30 knots and carries up to 2,200 kg of radar, AIS, stabilised electro-optical sensors and weapons. It can run autonomously or under remote control from a shore or ship station, and a quick switch-over lets the same hull be crewed when a mission calls for it. IAI also offers the Katana control system for customers' own boats.
