Overview

Solar-powered autonomous catamaran from ST Engineering for cleaning and monitoring waterways.

JUPITER is a small solar-powered autonomous boat from Singapore's ST Engineering that keeps rivers, canals and reservoirs clean. A roof of solar panels runs it without fuel, while cameras let it steer around obstacles on its own. It scoops floating rubbish onto a conveyor, cuts back invasive water plants and samples water quality, and can be cued by aerial drones that spot debris from above.

Primary Roles

waterway cleaningflotsam and aquatic plant removalwater-quality monitoring

Notes

A solar roof charges the batteries that power the whole vessel with zero emissions. Stereo cameras detect and avoid obstacles. Payloads include a conveyor belt for collecting floating debris, cutters for clearing aquatic plants, and water-quality sampling and monitoring equipment. ST Engineering pairs it with surveillance drones as part of an integrated unmanned waterway management system. Dimensions and speed are not published.
