概述
MBARI's long-range, low-power science AUV that can travel 1,800 km or drift for weeks while sampling the ocean.
Tethys is the long-range AUV class developed at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute to keep science sensors in the ocean for weeks without a ship. The torpedo-shaped vehicle is about 2.3 m long, 30 cm in diameter, and around 110 kg, and is rated to 1,500 m. A highly efficient propulsion system and a buoyancy engine let it fly level at 0.5 to 1.2 m/s, hover in place, or drift with water masses. It has covered 1,800 km at 1 m/s over about three weeks. Payloads drawing as little as about 8 watts include water samplers and environmental sample processors that capture eDNA and track harmful algal blooms. MBARI operates a fleet of LRAUVs, and Saab sells a licensed commercial version.
