Solar-, wind- and wave-powered ASW surveillance USV from ThayerMahan, on an Ocius Bluebottle-type hull.
Outpost is an uncrewed submarine-hunting vessel from ThayerMahan of Groton, Connecticut, built on a 22-foot hull from Australia's Ocius, maker of the Bluebottle. Powered by sun, wind and waves, it can stay at sea for long periods while towing a deep passive sonar array that listens for submarines and reports contacts almost in real time. The first unit was christened in 2025 as a mobile, persistent alternative to fixed undersea listening networks.
The 22 ft (6.7 m) hull is built by Australia's Ocius Technology and draws power from solar, wind and wave energy. It tows ThayerMahan's deep passive acoustic array and sends contact reports in near real time. ThayerMahan says it meets top-level US Navy requirements for deep-water passive surveillance. The first unit, TM001, was christened in Groton, Connecticut in April 2025.
