Saipem's resident hybrid AUV for autonomous inspection of deepwater oil and gas infrastructure.
FlatFish, also called Hydrone-S, is the inspection member of Saipem's Hydrone family of subsea drones. It is a hybrid AUV/ROV rated to 3,000 m that can live permanently at a subsea docking station or be launched from an autonomous vessel, platform, or FPSO, then inspect pipelines and risers on its own without a tether. It harvests data from subsea sensors and measures cathodic protection without contact. Developed with Petrobras for Brazil's ultra-deepwater fields, it completed tests at Saipem's Trieste centre in 2026.
