Ikhtisar
Medium-size REMUS vehicle and the basis of the U.S. Navy's Mk 18 Mod 2 Kingfish mine-hunting UUV.
REMUS 600 is the medium member of the REMUS family, originally developed at Woods Hole and now built by HII, and one of the most widely used military UUVs. The roughly 3.6 m, 250 kg vehicle dives to 600 m and, in its mine-countermeasure configuration, runs missions of up to a day at up to 4 knots, with longer-endurance setups reaching around 70 hours. Modular sections carry side-scan sonar, cameras, current profilers, and environmental sensors. The U.S. Navy fielded it as the Mk 18 Mod 2 Kingfish, which searches for mines in shallow water so that sailors and divers don't have to, and many other navies and research institutions use REMUS 600s for survey, search, and ISR missions.
