Descripción general
40 ft long-endurance diesel USV from Chance Maritime, which ran a record 38-day offshore survey.
The MC40 is a 40-foot uncrewed survey vessel from Chance Maritime Technologies of Lafayette, Louisiana, built for very long offshore missions. A diesel engine drives it while also supplying kilowatts of power to scientific instruments, and redundant Starlink links let operators supervise it from shore. In 2026 one ran continuously for 38 days and more than 4,000 nautical miles monitoring the Gulf of Mexico's Loop Current, a record for a diesel-powered uncrewed vessel.

Aluminium hull with an inboard diesel, a diesel generator and electric drive for station-keeping, an active gyrostabiliser, moon pool and redundant Starlink links. Chance claims endurance of more than 90 days. In January 2026, working for Woods Hole Group, an MC40 completed a continuous 38-day Loop Current survey 200 nmi offshore in the Gulf, covering over 4,000 nmi and holding 4.5 kn in gale-force winds. Its 29 ft predecessor, the MC-29, offered 30+ day endurance.
