Descripción general

Chinese extra-large uncrewed submarine shown at the 2025 Beijing parade, described as an autonomous mine-laying system.

AJX002 is a Chinese extra-large uncrewed underwater vehicle that was publicly revealed at the Beijing military parade of 3 September 2025. Analysts estimate it is about 18-20 m long but only 1.1-1.5 m in diameter, making it extremely slender, with lifting lugs that suggest it is crane-launched and may split into two sections for transport. Chinese official commentary called it an unmanned mine-laying system, implying it can travel autonomously to lay mines in harbours or straits without risking a crewed submarine. Range is unpublished, but if roughly half the hull holds batteries it could exceed 1,000 nautical miles. Its appearance, alongside a second larger XLUUV, signalled that China has fielded large undersea drones for missions around Taiwan and the first island chain.

Notas

No official specifications. Analysts estimate 18-20 m length (19 m recorded here) and 1.1-1.5 m diameter from parade-rehearsal imagery; Naval News suggests a range likely above 1,000 nm. At least four AJX002s were seen in rehearsals alongside a second, wider XLUUV design.
