Royal Navy's 13 m high-speed autonomous test boat, originally the MAST-13 demonstrator built by L3Harris for Dstl.
XV Madfox is the Royal Navy's 13 m autonomous test boat and one of the service's first uncrewed surface vessels. It began life as MAST-13 (Maritime Autonomy Surface Testbed), built by L3Harris's UK uncrewed-systems business for the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory and launched in 2019. Twin Cummins diesels driving waterjets push it to around 40 knots, and L3Harris's ASView autonomy software, with algorithms developed for Dstl, lets it navigate and avoid collisions without a crew. In 2021 it was handed to NavyX, the Royal Navy's innovation unit, renamed Madfox, and it is used to develop uncrewed surveillance and force-protection tactics for the fleet.
